Corsica

While in France and visiting other locations in Europe, Jim Morrison and Pamela Courson film several home movies using Jim’s Braun Nizo S56 Super 8mm camera. These films almost certainly include the last known footage shot of Jim Morrison before his death. At least some of the footage, if not all of it, remains in a private collection. The maximum length of film per reel would only be about three minutes.

Corsica is a French island in the Mediterranean Sea. It is located west of Italy, southeast of the French mainland, and north of the Italian island of Sardinia. Mountains make up two-thirds of the island, forming a single chain. Before French domination, Corsica was under the ownership of the Republic of Genoa.

Corsica is one of the 27 régions of France, although it is designated as a territorial collectivity (collectivité territoriale) by law. As a territorial collectivity, it enjoys some greater powers than other French régions. Corsica is referred to as a “région” in common speech, and is almost always listed among the other régions of France. Corsica is split into two departments, Haute-Corse (Upper Corsica) and Corse-du-Sud (Southern Corsica), with its regional capital in Ajaccio, the prefecture city of Corse-du-Sud. Bastia, the prefecture city of Haute-Corse, is the second-largest settlement in Corsica.

Although the island is separated from the continental mainland by the Ligurian Sea and is closer to Italy than to the French mainland, politically Corsica is part of Metropolitan France. After rule from the Republic of Genoa starting in 1282, Corsica was briefly an independent Corsican Republic from 1755 until its conquest by France in 1769. Corsica’s culture contains both French and Italian elements, and its constitution while a Republic was written in Italian. The native Corsican language is recognised as a regional language by the French government.

The Doors – Strange Days (1967): Review

Following the success of their self titled debut, The Doors quickly followed up and continued the momentum with “Strange Days”. Finding material for the album wasn’t difficult as the band had built up a large catalogue of songs from their live shows, and under the expert hand of producer Paul Rothchild almost reproduced the quality of the predecessor. That said, although “Strange Days” isn’t as memorable as “The Doors”, it’s still a top notch album with typical Doors classics such as “People Are Strange” and “Love Me Two Times”.

A history lesson for todays young environmentalists

So often when I’m reading various articles about global warming or as it’s now called — ‘climate change’ — I see comments made by people from young-er generations stating that the baby boom generation doesn’t give a damn about the planet.  We’ve destroyed it with our insatiable greed leaving nothing for them but ashes.

I’ve decided to write a response to those who believe that they are the first generation to care about the planet.

The 60′s was a decade remembered for its turmoil, upheaval and change.  Unlike the 50′s with it’s iconic stay-at-home Moms making wonderful home cooked meals while the Dads were off working hard to care for their families, the 60′s brings back memories of psychedelic colours, flower children, hippies, long hair, VW buses and Woodstock. Wars, political assassinations, threats of nuclear holocausts and a general feeling of instability that something radical was happening to the world were a daily part of our lives.

The 60′s also brought in the era of protests and demonstrations.  Civil rights, sit-ins, campus riots, civil disobedience, women’s liberation, and yes, environmental protests.  Our music expressed our objections to the Vietnam war.  Disestablishmentarianism was the word of the day.  Ask any baby boomer about May 4, 1970 and they’ll tell you all about it.

A new facebook page has just been created about  Jim and Pam. The page has some incredible photo’s in better and larger quality. I read in one of the photos description that they are also writing a book. The following text and photos is in courtsey of the page Pamela Courson-She Dances In a Ring of Fire:

Jim and Pamela pose in a photo booth around Summer or September 1967, probably New York era.
While one pic, has surfaced to this day, it is likely photos from this day exist.

1

Jim and Pamela are posing during an event (details unknown) at the  Ambassador Hotel, Coconut Groove (named at the time New Groove) in Los Angeles, early 1968. (exact date unknown)
3

Jim and Pamela probably around September 1968, exact date and location unknown, but probably London, in what is looking to be backstage of a show.
The digital copy of this photo has been privately bought by us, however we do not own the copyrights: they belong to British photographer, Anthony Stern, mostly famous for his Syd Barrett photos and a series of documentaries he shot during the late 60s in San Francisco hippie communities.

Pamela backstage of the Avalon Ballroom  in San Francisco on possibly either 14th or 15th April 1967, during one of the performances the band gave. Bobby Klein has said he had originally more photos of Pamela, possibly from this event, but sadly they have been lost during a blaze.

In 1967, while Pamela are staying in their Laurel Canyon house, photographer Bobby Klein pay a visit to them at their house and find them both in bed, naked. On Pam’s request he takes a picture of them naked. The photo in itself has never surfaced, there is only this sample that has been showed to this day. Very few copies of the photo have been purchased privately, since Bobby Klein is no longe…r wiling to sell them, out of respect for the couple’s privacy. However one of the buyers showed this sample a while ago on the Lizard Lounge forum. He described Pam being on the photo, sitting on a chair, smiling while Jim is at her side, standing visibly much more uncomfortable looking than her. It has been suggested that this “sample” is actually a fake copy/paste job, using images of Jim and Pamela’s heads spliced from common and separate prior images of the two. Copyright: Bobby Klein

Jim and Pam Mantlepiece

Text and photos with kind courtesy from Pamela Courson-She Dances In a Ring of Fire:
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Pamela-Courson-She-Dances-In-a-Ring-of-Fire/526308087482227?id=526308087482227

This photo shows a photo that was on Jim and Pam’s mantlepiece.
One day, friend and neighbor Diane Gardiner, who was living below Jim and Pam’s apartment at 8216 Norton Avenue, was giving a party where Jim was invited.
Out of fury, Pam arrived in Diane’s apartment convinced Jim was flirting with another girl.
She was so angry with him, she brought a picture of them together, with scissors and cut the photo in half, showing them in December 1968 (photographer unknown). Diane collected the picture, fixed it and after this they put it again on their mantelpiece. Photographer Edmund Teske, before shooting the famous ‘Bronson Caves’ series in 1969, visited Jim and Pamela’s apartment before the shoot and took pictures of their apartment and of their mantelpiece where the picture was put again.
The story comes from Jim’s biography ‘Break on through’ by James Riordan and Jerry Prochnicky.

Sharon Tate and the mysterious Moroccan djellaba

Sharon Tate, here pictured around 1969, with her husband, Roman Polanski, were customers of Pam’s store, Themis. She is seen wearing a traditional Moroccan djellaba robe.  Although, it has not been proven she has actually purchased this item, in Themis, it is almost certain she bought it at Themis, as only Pamela sold those kind of items at the time, in Los Angeles.

The following picture is from a TV program about Charles Manson and his “family”. Note below that one of his followers is wearing the same Moroccan djellaba robe that both Sharon and Pam are wearing. The Manson family were known to be thieves, or as they called it ”creepy crawling” their way into people’s homes to steal whatever caught their eyes. I don’t know if the night Sharon was murdered they stole any of her clothes, but it is very eerie that one of Manson’s followers was wearing this same rare djellaba that Sharon owned in 1969, at one of  those “Free Manson’s” protests. The only one selling these expensive Moroccan djellaba at the time was Pamela in her boutique Themis.
